New Waterproofing Series on YouTube

In March, a new online video series for contractors began. Called “Fix-it Friday,” the series explains how to repair and maintain the spray equipment used by waterproofing and spray foam contractors.  The series is sponsored by SprayWorks Equipment Group, a spray foam and coatings equipment company.  The show consists of monthly videos, hosted by polyurethane equipment experts John Davidson and Dave Pentac.  Each episode is focused on a common repair or maintenance item that probably takes place regularly, except the videos allow contractors to take repairs into their own hands.

“Fix-It Friday videos not only make repairs easy to understand, but also breaks down the anatomy of equipment,” explains Davidson.   “We break it down to make repairs quick which leaves the spray foam contractor feeling confident.”

He says contractors can expect to see future videos on replacing O-rings, lubricating and servicing equipment, and other common repairs needing to take place in spray foam rigs and coatings rigs.

Coatings Companies Merge

In April,  ICP Construction acquired Pli-Dek Systems, Inc..  They’re part of ICP Group,  a supplier of coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers.  Pli-Dek manufactures specialty coatings for the building industry, including waterproof deck coatings, fluid applied waterproofing membranes, epoxy flooring and concrete coatings.

With the acquisition, Pli-Dek’s innovative waterproofing solutions will be integrated into ICP Construction’s flooring solutions group.

“Pil-Dek’s 35 years of experience in the specialty coatings market extends our geographic footprint and allows us to serve a broadened customer base,” says Zain Mahmood, president of ICP Construction. “We are confident this acquisition will solidify our ability to continue to deliver the performance and service our customers have come to expect from Pli-Dek.”

Self-Adhered Membrane Celebrates 30 Years

MFM Building Products is celebrating the 30th anniversary of their flagship Peel & Seal product.  It was first introduced in 1988 as a self-stick, waterproofing membrane specifically designed for low-slope roofing and general flashing applications. The product received several U.S. patents for its unique composition of laminated aluminum foil, high-density polymer films and a layer of rubberized asphalt adhesive.

Today, color options include aluminum, white, granite gray and almond; and is used for  whole roof coverings, flashing around exterior protrusions and skylights, and any other hard to waterproof architectural detail.

As always, the product provides a long-lasting, durable, maintenance-free roofing surface without the use of coatings or coverings. The aluminum surface reflects heat keeping internal temperatures cooler, lowering utility costs. It adheres directly to the substrate and is self-sealing around fasteners to create a watertight bond.

Silicone Roof Coating Certified

In March, National Coatings Corporation announced that two of their silicone roof coatings had passed an important certification.

The two products—SRC 740 (spray grade) and SRC 750 (roller grade)—meet the NSF protocol for health effects from rainwater catchment systems.

Rainwater catchment systems collect rainwater for use as potable (drinking) water, and are commonly found in tropical areas. NSF’s P151 lays out testing guidelines for products that come in direct contact with rainwater (in this case, the roofing material) to ensure that the water remains safe for drinking.

Chris Whitehouse, National Coatings’ vice president of sales and marketing, says, “Rainwater catchment systems are in high demand and this gives our customers a larger range of products to select from with the NSF approval.”

Waterproofing Companies Update Websites

ISI Building Products (formerly Insulation Solutions, Inc.) recently launched a new corporate website.  Located at www.isibp.com, the site showcases a new design with quick and easy access to product information.

Jenni L. Hentchel, marketing and event coordinator, says, “We invite you to browse the new site and discover the wide variety of high quality products ISI currently offers.”

In December, Mule-Hide Products Co. launched their redesigned website, www.mulehide.com, making it faster and easier for users to access the information they need when choosing, specifying, or installing Mule-Hide’s low-slope roofing systems.

The product catalog can be searched by roofing system type (single-ply, coatings, modified bitumen, or green roof) or by category (membranes, adhesives, insulation, coatings, accessories, etc.). Overviews summarize features and benefits, helping users choose the right system for a given job.

The site was designed with mobile devices in mind, making it easy for users to access the information and services they need, regardless of the type of device or location. The site is intended to perform equally well regardless of whether it’s a mobile phone on a rooftop, a tablet in a customer’s conference room or the computer on an office desk.

The “Find-a-Rep” function enables users to pinpoint the nearest Mule-Hide Products distributor or territory manager.

The website also keeps users posted on the latest news from Mule-Hide Products, including product introductions, notable projects, technical updates and upcoming trade shows.
